What each option actually is
Two different ways to play your IPTV subscription on a Smart TV:
- IPTV stream player apps — third-party IPTV-specialist apps installed on the TV: IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate (on Android TV / Fire Stick), Smart IPTV (on Samsung Tizen + LG webOS). Read more in our best IPTV player guide.
- Smart TV's native player — the live-TV app that ships with your TV (Samsung Live TV, LG Channels, Sony Bravia TV+, Google TV Live). Some of these accept an
.m3uURL, some only their own EPG feed.

Where the stream player wins
Faster channel zapping
Smart TV native players are tuned for one HDMI input at a time, not for browsing 30,000 IPTV channels. Smarters Pro and TiviMate cache the EPG and pre-buffer adjacent channels — zap times drop from 1-3 seconds to under 300 ms.
Real 7-day EPG (especially with Xtream Codes)
Smart TV EPGs pull regional terrestrial broadcast schedules. They don't know what's on the 28,000 IPTV channels you actually subscribe to. The third-party players use the Xtream Codes API to pull a full 7-day EPG straight from your IPTV provider.
Catch-up TV up to 7 days back
The killer feature — missed Saturday's Premier League match? Scroll left in the EPG to rewind up to 7 days. Smart TV native players have zero catch-up.
Portable across devices
Smarters Pro runs on iPhone, Apple TV, Smart TV, Fire Stick, Mac, Windows — same login, same favourites. Smart TV native players are stuck on that one TV.
Where the Smart TV native player wins
- Zero install — already there out of the box
- Voice control — Alexa / Google Assistant / Bixby integration is rarely as good in third-party apps
- Remote keys work natively — the volume keys, channel up/down, TV button, info button work without learning new shortcuts
- Lower power use — running 0 extra apps consumes a tiny bit less power on always-on standby
What to install (per device)
| Device | Best stream player | Backup |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Smart TV (Tizen) | Smart IPTV (SIPTV) | Smarters Pro |
| LG Smart TV (webOS) | Smart IPTV (SIPTV) | SS IPTV |
| Sony / Google TV | TiviMate | Smarters Pro |
| Amazon Fire TV Stick | TiviMate | Smarters Pro |
| Apple TV (tvOS) | IPTV Smarters Pro | GSE Smart IPTV |
| NVIDIA Shield / Android box | TiviMate | Smarters Pro |
| iPhone / iPad | IPTV Smarters Pro | GSE Smart IPTV |
All of the above accept Royal IPTV's Xtream Codes API. See our TiviMate setup guide and IPTV Smarters Pro guide for step-by-step instructions.
